BETH YOSSEF Yeshiva offers you to do your kapparots with the rosh yeshiva Rav Nathan Yabra chlita

Before the day of forgiveness, it is customary to perform a symbolic atonement of our sins and those of our loved ones, using a chicken that we turn around our heads and reciting an appropriate prayer.

By the merit of the tzedakah (gift) we perform, we redeem our sins and ask Gd to atone for our sins.

Kapparot is done with a rooster, a fish or a sum of money equivalent to the numerical value of the word “life”

Today, the custom is to make this act of Kapparot by giving the money that is used for the kapparot to the poor as tzedakah (Shulchan Arukh 605).

DETAIL OF THE MITSVA

We take a rooster (the ladies take a hen and the pregnant women two hens and a rooster) which is rotated three times over the head, saying each time: “This will take my this, this will exchange me, this will be my atonement. He will go to death while I will go to a life of happiness and peace. ”

The poultry is then slaughtered according to the halachic ritual slaughtering procedure and its monetary value is given to the poor, or, and this is the most widespread practice today, the chicken itself is given to a charitable cause.

We ask Gd that, in the event that we are destined to be the object of cruel decrees, they may be transferred to this chicken by the merit of the mitzvah of charity.

THE MOMENT

Kapparot can be done at any time during the Ten Days of Penance (that is, between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur), but the ideal time is the day before Yom Kippur shortly before dawn because then “a thread of divine goodness”vis reigns over the world.
