DETAIL OF THE MITSVA<\/h5>\n
We take a rooster (the ladies take a hen and the pregnant women two hens and a rooster) which is rotated three times over the head, saying each time: “This will take my this, this will exchange me, this will be my atonement. He will go to death while I will go to a life of happiness and peace. ”<\/p>\n
The poultry is then slaughtered according to the halachic ritual slaughtering procedure and its monetary value is given to the poor, or, and this is the most widespread practice today, the chicken itself is given to a charitable cause.<\/p>\n
